March 4, 2020
The IACC recently conducted a training event under the U.S. Law Enforcement IP Training Program in Eagle Pass, Texas. This program provides authorities throughout the country with the tools to act strategically in the detection and seizure of counterfeit goods.
Training was held in the CBP facility at the Eagle Pass International Crossing, Port of Entry and provided an opportunity for over 67 CBP officers and HSI Investigators to view up to date information on product lines and known counterfeits of the 34 brands in attendance. Rights-holders provided inpidualized instruction to strengthen efforts and increase ability to deter sales of counterfeit products.
We would like to extend our appreciation to Customs Border Protection for their assistance in organizing this event and to all members of law enforcement for their ongoing support.
The IACC also conducted hands on training of our exclusive Law Enforcement Training App, and distributed USB’s to participants. For further information on our App click here.

A Message from the IACC President
Dear Colleagues,
Every year, we look forward to connecting with our global IP partners, practitioners and friends to network and share best practices in the fight against fakes. Unfortunately, the global outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) means that we’ve had to stop large-gatherings to prevent further spread of the virus. For that reason, we have made the difficult decision to postpone all our conferences until 2021.
This was a tough call to make and while we know this is disappointing, your health and safety are our utmost concern. Given the existing CDC and WHO recommendations to limit the size of meetings and gatherings, as well as several reports forecasting a second wave of the virus in the fall, we cannot risk your and our staffs’ safety.
The good news is that we will be offering virtual forums, and learning and networking opportunities in place of our conferences, so that you can continue to connect with us and your colleagues in order to enhance your brand protection program. We will also be sending a survey to members to gather additional topics of interest for our virtual programs. Stay tuned!
We’re also excited to see you in-person next year at our Annual Conference in San Diego on April 28-30, 2021 and our Latin America Summit in Orlando on September 14-15, 2021. Along those lines, we will be factoring in additional safety measures for our 2021 events to address any continuing concerns arising from COVID-19. We will provide you with more details about our 2021 events over the next several months.
Thank you to our members and partners for their continued support and participation in the IACC.
Thank you to all our government and law enforcement partners for continuing to protect companies and consumers against dangerous fakes during this difficult time. Our sincerest appreciation also goes to all first responders, medical and hospital staff, and essential workers for their bravery and dedication in protecting our communities. You too can “Pay It Forward” by visiting #GetUsPPE, an organization started by a group of Doctors and supported by a volunteer team of developers, connecting individuals and/or organizations willing to donate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
As always, we wish you continued health and safety.
Sincerely,
Bob Barchiesi
IACC President
Dear Colleagues,
I cannot emphasize enough the IACC’s gratitude to the true heroes of COVID-19 – doctors, nurses, police, Emergency Medical Technicians, and firefighters. In early March, we opened the coffers of the IACC and purchased and donated thousands of KN95 medical masks to these brave men and women.
I was heartened and humbled to receive an email from a doctor practicing at North Shore University Hospital stating “Please understand how very thankful we are for the masks you have provided. We feel blessed to have the support from such an important organization. These masks that you have donated have already been used on the “front lines.” They are used every day protecting our providers while they perform lifesaving procedures.” At a community Hospital, a health care professional sent me the following message “There are no words adequate enough to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for the face masks given to me and my fellow coworkers. Being able to put on a fresh mask every day instead of reusing the same one for multiple days, helped me get through the long hours and difficult weeks. Thank you for your generosity.” Finally, from an administrator from NY Presbyterian “The package has arrived! Thank you for your organization’s generosity. These masks will go to good use and I can’t overstate how much we appreciate your donation; it’s so uplifting to have your support!”
You too can “Pay It Forward” by visiting https://getusppe.org/ started by a group of Doctors and supported by a volunteer team of developers, connecting individuals and/or organizations willing to donate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) with front line responders that need PPE.
As Winston Churchill famously stated in a speech before the House of Commons on August 20, 1940: “Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.”
As always, we wish you continued health and safety.
Best Regards,
Bob Barchiesi

As Winston Churchill famously stated in a speech before the House of Commons on August 20, 1940: “Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.”
We owe a great deal of gratitude to the true heroes of COVID-19 – doctors, nurses, police, EMT’s and firefighters.
Each and every day during this horrifying coronavirus pandemic, we are touched and inspired by their bravery. They are heroes daily anyway, but they deserve an extra dose of appreciation as we battle this new enemy.
Just as members of the NYPD, FDNY and Port Authority Police showed us what true leadership was like on 9-11, our health care professionals are doing the same right now when we need it most.
As you may have heard the saying “There are eight million stories in the naked city,” I’d like to share a few with you.
As I write this, one of my staff members’ sister is a nurse in New York tending to COVID-19 positive moms helping to deliver their newborn babies.
Our friends and partners at Homeland Security have been conducting “Operation Stolen Promise,” investigating COVID-19 related crime and fraud.
Our friends and partners at Alibaba donated 500,000 testing kits and 1 million masks to the U.S. in an effort to combat the coronavirus pandemic. And when NY Governor Andrew Cuomo put out an urgent call for ventilators, Jack Ma, Joe Tsai, and Michael Evans came through with 1,000 ventilators.
IACC member tech companies and partners such as Apple, Amazon and Microsoft to name a few-lend their expertise and capital to help fight COVID-19 (see article).
IACC pharmaceutical members such as Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Eli Lilly, Abbott Labs, GSK, Celgene Allergan, Genentech, Boehringer-Ingelheim Corporation, Geneva Laboratories, Merck, LifeScan and others have been actively engaged in developing a vaccine, testing kits and therapies for COVID-19.
I am proud to announce that the IACC was able to secure KN95 masks and donate them to Doctors, Nurses, Police, Firefighters, and EMT’s.
I want to sincerely thank all of the IP community who showed how in this time of crisis “We all stand together.” And we can all make a difference – watch this video featuring retired U.S. Navy Admiral William H. McRaven’s inspirational words.
My best wishes to you, your families, and colleagues for your continued safety and health.
Sincerely,
Bob Barchiesi
IACC President
