Keynote Speakers

 


Robert “Bob” Barchiesi
President
IACC

 

Robert (Bob) Barchiesi is President of the International AntiCounterfeiting Coalition (IACC). In this role, Bob leads one of the world’s oldest and largest trade associations representing exclusively the interests of over 250 companies concerned with trademark counterfeiting and the related theft of intellectual property.

Mr. Barchiesi joined the (IACC) in 2008. Under his leadership, the organization has almost doubled its membership and expanded its initiatives into Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. Mr. Barchiesi also spearheaded the development of the IACC RogueBlock® initiative – a voluntary agreement and strategic partnership with MasterCard, Visa Europe, Visa International, PayPal, Discover / PULSE / DinersClub, American Express, MoneyGram, and Western Union. The initiative focuses on combating rogue websites and online marketplaces. He also led the launch of the IACC MarketSafe®, an initiative with Alibaba and IACC to address counterfeit products on the company’s e-commerce platforms, Taobao and TMall.

Prior to his appointment as the IACC President, Bob has had a distinguished career serving in leadership positions at the Recording Industry Association of America, the New York City Police Department and the U.S. Virgin Islands Office of the Attorney General, and as the Chief of Police in Crystal River, Florida.

Mr. Barchiesi has spoken to influential media including CNBC, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, The Today Show, CNN, ABC, CBS, and other major media outlets about global anti-counterfeiting strategies, voluntary agreements and the impactof counterfeiting on governments and consumers. Bob has also testified before Congress and is a frequent keynote speaker at anti-counterfeiting conferences around the world. Mr. Barchiesi serves on the editorial panel for the World Intellectual Property Review magazine and is listed in the 137th edition of “Contemporary Authors.”

Mr. Barchiesi received his M.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of Alabama and his B.A. from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.




Dawn Atlas

Calvin Klein


Dawn Atlas is the Vice President, Enforcement and Assistant General Counsel of Calvin Klein, Inc. She has been responsible for the worldwide enforcement of intellectual property for Calvin Klein for over 20 years.

Dawn is also the Chair of the Board of Directors of the International AntiCounterfeiting Coalition (IACC), the only nonprofit organization solely dedicated to intellectual property enforcement. She held this position from 2002 through 2006 and again from 2012 to present, serving on the Executive Board as Director in between. She has also served as the Chair of the Brand Protection Counsel of the American Apparel and Footwear Association.


 


Steve K. Francis

Acting Executive Associate Director
Homeland Security Investigations

 

Mr. Steve K. Francis is currently the Acting Executive Associate Director for Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the principal investigative component of the Department of Homeland Security. HSI investigates, disrupts, and dismantles transnational criminal organizations and terrorist networks that threaten or seek to exploit the customs and immigration laws of the United States. In this role, Mr. Francis oversees HSI’s workforce, which consists of over 10,000 employees to include special agents, criminal analysts, mission support personnel and contract staff assigned to over 220 offices throughout the United States and across 50 countries worldwide.


 

 


Pedro Gaspar
Inspector General
Portuguese Economic and Food Safety Authority (ASAE)



Pedro Portugal Gaspar has been Inspector General of ASAE since 2013, a period during which ASAE has strengthened its powers, especially in the relationship between counterfeiting and money laundering. Also, the fight against food counterfeiting (food fraud) has been a priority, always operating in both scenarios of intervention – physical and digital space.

Another of the priorities of its mandate is the fight against counterfeiting along the value chain –  i.e. in production, storage and retail – while enhancing joint actions with other European police forces, such as Europol and Interpol. To that end, optimizing a close relationship with brands has been crucial, being publicly recognized by them.


 


Raymond A. Tierney

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney is a career prosecutor, having served more than 27 years as a prosecutor at both the state and federal levels. Elected on November 2, 2021, he is committed to enforcing the law in an ethical and accountable manner to protect the citizens of Suffolk County. DA Tierney is experienced in managing and conducting investigations and prosecutions of all manner of criminal cases, including but not limited to arsons, child pornography, crimes against intellectual property, domestic violence, homicides, kidnappings, organized crime, political corruption, gang violence and violent sexual assaults.

Matthew Bassiur
Vice President and Head of Global IP Enforcement
Alibaba Group




Matthew Bassiur serves as Vice President, Head of Global Intellectual Property Enforcement for Alibaba Group.  He leads a team that works with international brands, retail partners, industry associations, government regulators, law enforcement and other organizations to advance Alibaba Group’s IP protection efforts.

Matthew joined Alibaba from Pfizer Inc., where he served as Vice President and Deputy Chief Security Officer – overseeing anti-counterfeiting operations as well as large-scale investigations.  Prior to Pfizer, Matthew was Senior Director for Global Security and Counsel for IPR Enforcement at Apple Inc.

Prior to Apple, Matthew was a federal prosecutor in the Computer Crime & Intellectual Property Section of the U.S. Department of Justice, where he prosecuted multi-jurisdictional IP crimes.  From 1998 to 2006, Matthew served as an assistant district attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, where he specialized in the prosecution of IP offenses and Asian organized crime.  Matthew earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1998.


 

James R. Mancuso

James ‘Jim’ Mancuso is currently the Director of the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center. In this position, he manages the federal government’s response to combat global intellectual property theft, protect national security, and ensure public health and safety. As a decorated federal law enforcement agent and civil servant, Mr. Mancuso has served and protected communities around the world for more than 27 years. He is a senior executive service member, spearheading transformational investigative efforts within Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).


 


Charles Wright

Charles is a Vice President and Associate General Counsel at Amazon. Charles leads legal support for Amazon’s selling partner business, including brand protection, customer trust, and product safety and compliance. Among other things, Charles helped launch Amazon’s Brand Registry and Project Zero programs, and in 2020 Charles launched Amazon’s Counterfeit Crimes Unit, which remains part of his team. Prior to his current role, Charles managed commercial litigation for Amazon, and prior to Amazon Charles was a litigator in private practice in Seattle. He is rumored to enjoy karaoke.

Roy Albiani is Director, Global Brand Protection, for Johnson & Johnson MedTech where he leads global strategies to safeguard patients from counterfeit and illicit trade schemes across J&J’s $29B device business. 

Roy has an over 30-year career leading Global Brand Protection, and marketing organizations.  He pioneered Global Brand Protection in 2003 at J&J which is recognized as an industry leader.

Roy received the Brand Protection Hero Award by Michigan State University’s Center for Anti-Counterfeiting and Brand Protection, the most prestigious industry recognition.

He is a graduate of Western Illinois University with a BA in Marketing and an M.B.A. from SMU.

Chris Bailey

Chris has worked in China for over 25 years, focused on intellectual property management, enforcement, and commercialization.

Chris has led several groundbreaking cases in trade dress, trade secrets, copyright and patents. Chris is co-creator of CIELA (www.ciela.cn), a Chinese IP litigation analysis tool regularly used by IP professionals to inform litigation and licensing decisions.

Chris leads Rouse China’s Evidence Services, which provides investigations for criminal, civil and
administrative cases.

Chris is co-author of two books on IP in China, and he speaks and reads Chinese.

Philippa Bergin-Fisher

Philippa is General Counsel at Australian womenswear brand, Zimmermann. Since joining in 2019, the business has undergone a period of considerable growth. Philippa has spent nearly 20 years in intellectual property, primarily in enforcement and disputes on national and global levels. She spent 13 years in private practice at Herbert Smith Freehills and has worked across a range of industries including pharmaceutical, telecommunications and FMCG.


Marissa Bostick

Marissa Bostick is Senior Corporate Counsel in Amazon’s Counterfeit Crimes Unit. Prior to Amazon, Marissa was a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York, primarily working on cases related to organized criminal networks and complex financial crimes. From 2019 to 2020, Marissa was also a Fulbright Scholar, teaching criminal law in Eastern Europe and working with the local legal and law enforcement community through the University and U.S. Embassy. Previously, Marissa was litigation counsel at O’Melveny & Myers in New York for over 6 years. Marissa is a graduate of Columbia Law School and the University of Pennsylvania.


Jeff Braden

Jeff Braden is the Director of Brand Protection for Victoria’s Secret & Company where he started as an investigator in 2013.  He manages a team covering anti-counterfeiting, online enforcement, product diversion, and domain management and is responsible for their enforcement work in the Americas, EU, Middle East, and Africa.  While at VS, he helped to expand the reach and improve the organization of the department.  He has completed the Michigan State University A-CAPP certificate program and holds a Master’s degree in Forensic Science from George Washington University where he worked for their police department as a senior investigator.

Joseph Cox is a Detective for the Portland Police Bureau with 15 years law enforcement experience. A Certified Fraud Examiner and a Homeland Security Task Force Officer with the Oregon Intellectual Property Theft Task Force. Assisted on a variety of IP theft cases ranging from street sellers to large scale cross country distribution. First investigated case resulted in a $281k restitution for 12 victim companies. The Oregon Intellectual Property Theft Task Force is funded by a BJA grant and consists of investigators from Beaverton, Portland, Tigard, Woodburn, Multnomah and Washington County, and Homeland Security Investigations.


Catherine Crosby

Catherine Crosby is the Senior Litigation Counsel at the United States Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Alabama and a member of the white collar crime section. Catherine prosecutes cybercrime, public corruption, financial fraud, and intellectual property and trademark infringement cases for the District. Prior to her service as a federal prosecutor, Catherine was a shareholder at Baker Donelson in Birmingham. A native of Brewton, Alabama, she graduated from Auburn University in 2002 and the University of Alabama School of Law, cum laude, in 2007, where she was a law school ambassador and managing board member of the Alabama Law Review.  Catherine is married to a police officer and enjoys spending time with her husband and three children.

Anna Dalla Val is the Director of Global Brand Relations at Amazon where she leads a global team dedicated to working with brands, industry associations, government regulators, and law enforcement to advance Amazon’s brand protection program.

Prior to joining Amazon, Anna served as VP and Global Head of Intellectual Property at Ralph Lauren where she was responsible for global brand management and protection of the company’s intellectual property rights working with senior management to develop and protect the strength of the Ralph Lauren brands.

A graduate of Columbia University Law School, Anna spent her early career in private practice focused on matters involving trademark prosecution and litigation.  For several years, Anna has been recognized on WTR 300: The World’s Leading Corporate Trademark Professionals.


Ryan DiAndrea

Ryan DiAndrea is a Special Agent with Homeland Security Investigations and is assigned to the National IPR Center as a Program Manager covering the Digital Piracy and Tobacco investigative programs. Prior to the IPR Center, Ryan was assigned to HSI Baltimore’s Cyber Crimes Team where he conducted fraud and intellectual property investigations. Before HSI Baltimore, Ryan was assigned to HSI Laredo where he investigated human smuggling and narcotics crimes. Ryan previously worked for USCIS as an Immigration Officer and the Massachusetts Inspector General’s Office as an investigator. Ryan holds Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Arts degrees in business.

Daniel Dougherty is a Senior Director with Alibaba Group’s Global IP Enforcement team.  Prior to Alibaba, Daniel was Vice President & General Counsel for the consumer electronics company, Monster, Inc. and has held global positions at other major platforms managing IP portfolios, litigation and dispute resolution, and global teams. Daniel has been named one of the 25 Most Influential People in the United States in Intellectual Property by The American Lawyer, graduated from the University of California, San Francisco College of the Law, and has spoken widely on issues of IP.


Shawn Harwood

Shawn Harwood is the Country Attaché for U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in China, where he prioritizes innovative casework and productive relationships with Chinese law enforcement and private industry brand protection offices. Prior to China, his career as a special agent has included appointments to HSI Headquarters and the field offices in London, England and Atlanta, Georgia, developing policies on international cooperation and managing a diverse portfolio of investigative casework. Mr. Harwood obtained undergraduate degrees in Economics and English Literature at the University of Virginia and a master’s degree in Security Studies at the Naval Postgraduate School.

Ameen Imam

Ameen Imam has been with USPTO as an attorney-advisor in various capacities including with the Office of the Commissioner for Trademarks and the Office of Policy and International Affairs’ Enforcement Team.  

In this role, Ameen assists in promoting the development of IP systems, nationally and internationally, and advocates for improvement in the enforcement of intellectual property rights. In this capacity, Ameen consults with foreign governments and U.S. agencies on the substantive legal and technical analysis of intellectual property rights enforcement laws, judicial regimes, civil and criminal procedures, border measures and administrative regulations relating to the enforcement of intellectual property rights.


Jason P. Jeffreys

Jason Jeffreys is Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property Protection and Security at the Entertainment Software Association (“ESA”), the premier trade association for the video game industry.  Mr. Jeffreys leads ESA’s IP enforcement efforts in Latin America, most notably in Brazil and Mexico where he partners with local law enforcement and government agencies to protect the video game industry’s IP in both online and physical spaces. Mr. Jeffreys  also coordinates ESA’s domestic IP enforcement policy efforts that impact ESA members.  Prior to ESA, Mr. Jeffreys served in the U.S. Department of State for fifteen years, promoting U.S. international relations.  After graduating from Samford University in 2001, Mr. Jeffreys earned his law degree in 2004 from the University of Tennessee College of Law with a focus on copyright law.


Travis D. Johnson

Travis Johnson serves as Vice President for Legislative Affairs and Senior Counsel to the International AntiCounterfeiting Coalition (IACC), overseeing the organization’s government relations and policy development functions.    

In that capacity, he has drafted and successfully advocated for the adoption of criminal trademark counterfeiting legislation in eight states, and testified as an expert witness on IP matters in the United States House of Representatives, numerous state legislatures, and in state court in New York.   

Mr. Johnson holds degrees in Law (JD, University of Florida, 2002), Political Management (MA, George Washington University, 2009) and Political Science (BA, University of Florida, 1999). He is a member of the Florida Bar, and is a frequent lecturer on IP protection and enforcement issues.


Kevin Kadish

Kevin Kadish is the three-time Grammy-nominated songwriter/producer/engineer/multi-instrumentalist responsible for co-writing, recording, producing, and mixing Meghan Trainor’s 2014 debut album Title, including the hits “All About That Bass,” “Lips Are Movin” and “Dear Future Husband.”  His work has also contributed to popular recordings by Willie Nelson, Rob Thomas, Jason Mraz and others.  As an artist, he has toured with acts such as Hall and Oats, Vertical Horizon, and Dave Mathews Band, and worked as a solo artist signed to Republic Records.  Kevin is co-chair for the Board of Directors for the Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC) and uses his accomplishments and platform to advocate for artist rights. 


Scott Kammer

Scott Kammer is responsible for leading Global Product Protection for Takeda Pharmaceuticals.  Scott provides 25 years corporate security experience in the pharmaceutical industry, working for Abbott Laboratories and Takeda Pharmaceuticals.  He has been instrumental in the development and implementation of a global strategy to combat illicit trade. 

Scott serves on the Rx360 Board where he has provided external training on supply chain security to regulators, customs and industry.  In addition, he has served on the APEC Life Sciences Innovation Forum as a technical advisor on supply chain security.


James Kryskowiak

James is a graduate of North Carolina State University, a Veteran, and former Police Officer. After 12 years in law enforcement, James transitioned into brand protection, working in specialty retail, agrichemicals, and consumer packaged goods.  James has contributed to the Brand Protection Professional and has given two guest lectures on brand protection at NC States’ Global Luxury and Management Master’s Program.  Additionally, James received two Trademark Protector awards from the NC Secretary of State, and the Brand Protection Hero Award from Michigan State University’s ACAPP Center.  James is the Brand Protection Manager for Church & Dwight Co., Inc.


Lucie M. Kwon

Lucie is a career prosecutor, serving as an Assistant District Attorney the last two decades with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.  She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, followed by a Juris Doctorate from the Cardozo School of Law.  Lucie serves distinctively as the first Asian American Bureau Chief in the history of Suffolk County government. Lucie has lectured on topics of Intellectual Property and Money Laundering.   In 2017, Lucie was a guest speaker at the United Nations Interpol Law Enforcement IP Crime Conference where she spoke to law enforcement members from over 60 nations about tracing illicit profits. 


Eric Lacoma

Eric has been at Louis Vuitton since 2013. He is responsible for maintaining the brands integrity throughout North America. In this role he oversees and guides investigations through a cadre of investigators and law enforcement contacts.

Prior to joining Louis Vuitton, Eric served 25-years in the Department of Homeland Security Investigations, and one of its predecessor agencies, the U.S. Customs Service, Office of Investigations. Eric held several supervisory positions and has received numerous awards for investigative excellence in programmatic areas such as narcotics, money laundering, violent gangs, and intellectual property.


Matt Lamberti
Senior Counsel, Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section (CCIPS)
U.S. Department of Justice

Matt Lamberti is Senior Counsel at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, DC.  At DOJ, Matt investigates and prosecutes sophisticated, multi-jurisdictional intellectual property and computer crimes around the country.  His cases include some of the largest counterfeit and piracy cases ever prosecuted in the United States.  Previously, Matt was Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of California, focusing on cybercrime and IP offenses; DOJ’s first full-time Intellectual Property Law Enforcement Coordinator, covering 25 countries in Central, Eastern, and Southern Europe; Counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee; and an attorney at a major law firm in Washington, DC.


Holly B. Lance

Holly Lance is an Attorney Advisor in the Office of Policy and International Affairs at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  Ms. Lance’s portfolio is Sub-Saharan Africa, where she promotes and advocates for improved protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights in the region through capacity building and technical assistance programs.  She specializes in the area of enforcement, and provides technical advice, analysis, and expertise on domestic and global intellectual property enforcement issues, including counterfeiting and piracy.  Prior to joining the USPTO in 2020, Ms. Lance was in private practice, where she focused on trademark, copyright and internet law issues.


Amber J. Lilly

Amber J. Lilly has a Master’s in criminal justice, along with a Graduate Certificate in Anticounterfeiting & Product Protection from Michigan State University. Amber has been with John Deere for 16 years and in her current role of Brand Asset Protection Manager, she has global responsibility over trademark enforcement for online marketplaces and social media for trademark, copyright, and counterfeit enforcement. Amber also manages brand protection service providers and anticounterfeiting training provided on behalf of John Deere. Amber currently is serving on the Board of Directors of the IACC and is a co-chair of the 2023 IACC Annual Meeting.


Carlos Linares, Jr.

Recording Industry Association of America

Carlos Linares is Senior Vice President, Content Protection & Enforcement, for the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).  Mr. Linares serves as counsel to the company’s content protection division and directs enforcement programs that protect the IP interests of the U.S. recording industry.  Mr. Linares holds a JD from the University of Florida and a BA in Liberal Arts and Music Performance from Louisiana State University.  An accomplished musician and songwriter, he has recorded and toured extensively and is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.  


Justin Lindenmayer

Justin Lindenmayer is the Capabilities and Operations Leader, Global Brand Protection at Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. Justin is responsible for managing the centralized operations, programs, processes, and initiatives in support of the GBP organization’s goal and objectives. Prior to his current role, Justin was the Senior Manager, Global Brand Protection, Consumer for Johnson & Johnson where he was responsible for leading the North America brand protection program for the Consumer segment. He holds an MBA in Finance from Seton Hall University and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Scranton.


David Lipkus

David has dedicated his practice to stopping infringers from using or reproducing his clients’ intellectual properties without permission in Canada, and online. His principal focus is on intellectual property brand protection for trademarks and copyrights. 

David regularly conducts training of law enforcement throughout the year on behalf of several brands, and manages all internet based counterfeiting investigation and enforcement.

Prior to his current role with Lazada, he spent 6 years at a global e-commerce company, with 4 years in Customer Trust with a focus on the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. Having worked in both Japan and Singapore, the global environments have deepened his knowledge of tech and e-commerce developments in APAC. He has held several other roles spanning Social Media to Engineering.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology and holds an MBA from Cornell University.

Prior to joining Shopee, Charles led brand protection programs for LVMH, Johnson & Johnson and Unilever.

Evan recently retired from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section. From 2016-2021, Evan was detailed to the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong as DOJ’s International Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Attorney-Advisor for Asia, where he acquired his Chinese name, 韋義榮. Evan is a graduate of Harvard College and Columbia Law School.
